Thermal Protection for area T > 1800 °C

RHT produces cubic zirconia concrete (ceramics) based on unique technology developed from 1985 to 95 by the Russian Academy of Science while it developed a refractory wall for the magnetohydrodynamic generator. Zirconium dioxide concrete of hydration hardening consists of several fractions of ZrO2 mono-crystal grains doped by yttrium oxide and bound into “stone” by barium mono-aluminate (BaAl2O4). The key advantage of this material is that it combines heat resistance and the unique high-temperature properties of zirconium dioxide with the added possibility of making complex shapes. Cubic zirconia concrete can be used at temperatures higher than 1800 °C in almost any environment. Articles made out of it are relatively inexpensive as they do not need to be annealed or subjected to other expensive processing. Its applications include:

  • thermal insulation for high temperature, high-frequency, laser, induction and resistance heat furnaces;
  • metal melting crucible manufacturing;
  • ferrous metallurgy refractory;
  • lining for nuclear reactor active zone melt trap for the case of severe accident.
